In 1954, the Southern Baptist Convention began to record the annual sessions of the Convention meetings. The Radio and Television Commission was responsible for the recordings. From 1954-1974, the proceedings were audio recordings and recorded on reel-to-reel tape. These audio recordings are accessible here. Video recordings of the annual sessions of the Convention meetings began in 1975. Most of the video recordings from the late 1970s were recorded on ¾ inch U-matic tape format. Some years had to be copied onto a new format of tape for preservation reasons by the Historical Commission staff. These are gavel to gavel recordings of the actions of the SBC. Viewers of the proceedings need to be aware that while the vast majority of the recordings are good quality, some recordings are poor and difficult to understand.
