Supporting The Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives
Through the hard work and dedication of our fine staff, with funding through the Cooperative Program, and with contributions of supporters throughout the years, the Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives has become the largest, most diverse and accessible depository of Baptist material in the world.
We need the help of friends and supporters of the SBHLA for us to continue these accomplishments. What can you do to help support the SBHLA and ensure the collection, preservation, and sharing of Southern Baptist history for future generations?
We want to offer you the opportunity to be a part of the preservation of Baptist history by making a tax deductible gift to the Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives, knowing that 100% of each contribution is wisely used to continue our work.
What kind of contributions can you make and how do you make them?
Material Donations
The Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives strives to continually increase its collection of archival material and books that document Baptist history. If you have material that you think might be a good addition to our collection, or if you have questions about a possible donation, please write, telephone, or email the Director with a description of the material. We will be in contact with you to determine the appropriate placing of your material and to complete a donation agreement. We may be able to help you to determine an estimated appraisal of your gift for tax purposes.
Gifts In Honor Or Memory Of
Making a donation or memorial gift to the Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives is a wonderful way to honor and recognize individuals who hold a special place in your life or heart.
Memorial gifts allow you to express sympathy, remembrance, and recognition of those loved ones and individuals who played a significant part in your life.
Tribute gifts are a way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, holidays, and so many other memorable times in the lives of family, friends, teachers, pastors, and other important people in your life. Gifts made to purchase books last a lifetime and benefit so many others while honoring those you love. A gift of $50 or more is the usual amount for memorial books. Book plates are added that describe the memorial or tribute gift, including the name of the person honored and the donor. We will also send a tribute letter to the person or family you choose to honor, without reference to the amount of your gift. Please include names and addresses along with your gift.
Supporting Funds And Projects
There are many other projects and funds that you may support with your donations.
The Lynn E. May, Jr. Study Grant Endowment Fund, named in honor of a former director of the Historical Commission, Southern Baptist Convention, helps historians, students, and other researchers working on papers, books, projects, and dissertations with traveling expenses to our library to study Baptist life and history. Gifts to this endowment will continue to fund Baptist research for years to come.
By supporting The SBHLA Endowment Fund, you can help ensure our financial needs will be provided for preserving Southern Baptist history for generations to come. Gifts to this endowment will continue to fund ongoing needs and special projects of the Library and Archives.
The Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives strives to continually update its on-line catalog and research material for students and other researchers who are unable to travel to Nashville to use our in-library material. Your gifts and donations can help support those changes to make on-line research easier and more abundant.
The SBHLA encourages the preservation of churches’ history through microfilming their official records. Your gifts and donations can help support the cost of microfilming and storing this precious Baptist history. You can honor your church or organization by helping to fund the cost of microfilming their records. A donation of $150 will provide funding for the microfilming of most church records. A gift acknowledgement page will be included on the microfilm.
