1954-1974
In 1954, the Southern Baptist Convention began to record the annual sessions of the Convention meetings. The Radio and Television Commission was responsible for the recordings. The proceedings were recorded on reel-to-reel tape. Some years had to be copied onto a new format of tape for preservation reasons by the Historical Commission staff. With the exception of the 1972 recordings, these are gavel to gavel recordings of the actions of the SBC. The 1972 recordings include highlights of the convention proceedings only. Listeners of the proceedings need to be aware that while the vast majority of the recordings are good quality, some recordings are poor and difficult to understand.
