Report from the Capital

1946-1984

Report from the Capital is the publication of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, formerly the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs.  When the Joint Committee was formed by six Baptist organizations, they almost immediately began a publication.  The early issues of this publication took the form of a monthly newsletter.  It then evolved to a 10 issue a year bulletin format.  The publication reported on the activities of the staff of the Joint Committee, news related to religious liberty issues and church-state concerns.  The early years of the newsletter included news related to Catholic-Baptists issues.  The publication included updates related to judicial rulings, federal aid to schools and hospitals, reports on meetings and conferences, religious liberty matters in other countries and legal action taken by the Joint Committee.  By the 1970s Report from the Capital also included articles on religion liberty issues and church-state concerns and book reviews.  The digital scans on this site were produced from the microfilm copy of the publication.
