This digital collection is a series of correspondence between John Newton Prestridge, editor of the Baptist Argus newspaper in Louisville, Kentucky, and James Marion Frost, corresponding secretary of the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Prestridge was born February 5, 1853, in Selma, Alabama, to Dr. Elijah and Sarah McCraw Prestridge. He studied at Howard College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Furman University. He was an ordained Baptist minister and pastored churches in Kentucky and Texas. In 1898, Prestridge began serving as editor of the Baptist Argus / Baptist World publication in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also active in the Baptist World Congress beginning in 1905. He died October 29, 1913, in Louisville, Kentucky. His correspondence with Frost is mostly related to the Baptist Young People’s Union, articles and editorials for the Baptist Argus, and issues and events within the international Baptist community. The majority of the letters are from Prestridge to Frost, but the collection also includes a few letters from Frost to Prestridge. Both handwritten and typescript letters are included in the collection. Typescript letters are any word searchable.
