Kage, Henry Lee
Henry Lee Kage joined the Sunday School Board, SBC, at age 18 in 1926, as an employee in the Mailing Department. He was a member of Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, for more than 65 years and served as the church’s president of the United Methodist Men and as chairman of the Board of Trustees. He died January 10, 1991, in Decatur, Georgia.
This oral history interview was conducted in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Sunday School Board, SBC, Leonard Wedel, Manager of the Personnel Department at the Board, in 1972. In the interview, Kage describes his experiences working in the Board’s Mailing Department including delivering packages by street car to Nashville-area churches, transporting money and checks to/from the Board and banks, acquiring travel tickets for Board employees, and delivering items to local lawyers’ offices. Having worked at the Board for 46 years upon his retirement in 1972, Kage gives his impressions of several Board employees including E. P. Alldredge, Ethel Allen, Lansing Burrows, Homer Grice, T. L. Holcomb, Hite C. Moore, William C. Phillips, Noble Van Ness, and J. O. Williams.
