1862-1865
The Confederate Baptist, a weekly four-page newspaper was published in Columbia, South Carolina, from October 1, 1862 to January 25, 1865. The newspaper was read not only by people at home but by soldiers in the Confederate army. The paper included articles about morality and ethical living and other faith topics. Articles related to colportage, religion in the camp, and reports on the religious status of soldiers were part of the newspaper. Because of the unique font and the poor quality of the original newspapers, optical character recognition was not used on this newspaper.
