1939
In 1938, messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Richmond, Virginia, approved the Convention appoint a Radio Committee to make a “careful study of the advisability of using the radio regularly in broadcasting our Baptist message.” The Executive Committee of the SBC provided $200 for expenses of the Radio Committee. In March 1939, one of the earliest Southern Baptist radio series, Calling America Back to God, was broadcast on WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky. Speakers for the series included Lee Rutland Scarborough, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and John R. Sampey, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
