The Collection of Lane and Associated Data includes information by and about pioneer Tennessee Baptist preacher Tidence Lane. Materials include Lane’s will, land transactions (1784-1878), family Bible records, and related genealogical data. The collection also includes data on the Nolachucky Baptist Association and Nolachucky Association of Primitive Baptists in Tennessee. The materials were microfilmed by the Historical Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1955.
Tidence Lane was born near Baltimore, Maryland, in 1724. The Lane family moved from Maryland to Virginia to North Carolina where Tidence was converted under the preaching of Shubal Stearns. He served as pastor of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Washington County, Tennessee, and organized and served as pastor of Bent Creek Baptist Church in Hamblen County, Tennessee. He died in 1806.
