1973-1975
Spring Street USA was a nationally syndicated religious variety television series of thirty-four shows launched by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1973. The program, deriving its name from the Board’s Atlanta, Georgia, Spring Street address, was produced cooperatively by the HMB, responsible for show content, and the SBC Radio and Television Commission, responsible for production and distribution. The show format included music by the twelve-member group, “Spring Street Singers,” guest interviews, and a message by Kenneth Chafin, program host and former HMB evangelism secretary. Buryl Red composed and directed much of the music. Funding shortages forced production to stop in 1975.
