1985-1990
The Southern Baptist Forum was a pre-meeting to the Southern Baptist Convention annual session from 1985 to 1990. The Southern Baptist Forum was an alternative meeting to the Southern Baptist Pastor’s Conference annual gathering. The Forum meeting included sermons and addresses by a variety of speakers and ministers including men and women. Speakers at the Forum addressed denominational concerns within the Convention/direction of the SBC, the role of women in SBC life, religious liberty, and theological differences. The meeting represented moderates within the Southern Baptist Convention while the Pastor’s Conference represented those more conservative. The Forum meetings were held only from 1985 to 1990. The Forum ended with the formation of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
The Radio and Television Commission was responsible for the recordings. The proceedings were recorded on reel-to-reel tape. Some years had to be copied onto a new format of tape for preservation reasons by the Historical Commission staff. Recordings include addresses and sermons only. Other proceedings are not included in the recordings.
