1961-1965
Your Foreign Missions Bulletin was published by the Department of Missionary Education and Promotion of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in the 1960s. The Bulletin was published 10 times each year for pastors and denominational leaders. The purpose of the Bulletin was to supply pertinent information including statistics on foreign missions, the Cooperative Program, and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering; illustrations; quotes from missionaries; announcements on foreign missions conferences and events; and general updates on the work of the Foreign Mission Board that pastors could use in their sermons and bulletins. In 1963, the publication switched from a 1-page legal size document to a 2-page letter size item. Bulletins in this presentation include years of the Baptist Jubilee Advance, a cooperative venture between the SBC and American Baptist Convention (1959-1964) to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Baptist beginnings on the national level in America. Each year, the Jubilee Advance highlighted an area of emphasis and theme including: 1959, Cooperative Christianity; 1960, Bible Teaching and Training; 1961, Stewardship; 1962, Church Extension; 1963, Sharing Christ with the Whole World; and 1964, Liberty and Light. Issues of the Your Foreign Missions Bulletin publication reflected themes of the Advance. The Baptist Jubilee Celebration was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, May 22-24, 1964. The event began with a concurrent meeting of the American and Southern Baptist Conventions. It featured preaching by the Reverend Billy Graham and a commemorative book on the history of Baptists in America, the Baptist Advance. Approximately 35,000 people attended the event. Following the conclusion of the Jubilee Advance, the FMB Department of Missionary Education and Promotion continued publishing the Bulletin in 1965 with the emphasis, Advance Again.
