1981-1993
Search was a quarterly publication of the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The first issue was Fall, 1970. The publication ended in 1993. A professional journal for Southern Baptist pastors, staff members, and denominational leaders, Search sought to explore current issues related to religious education, church music, administration, and practical theology. The editors, concerned that churches express Christ’s mission in the contemporary world, desired that Search serve as a platform for the exchange of important ideas and information. Articles in the publication addressed a variety of social issues and church administration matters including African American Baptists, aging, alcohol/drugs, Christian education, deacons, family/marriage, local Baptist associations, the Lord’s supper, pastoral care, rural America, urban evangelism, war and peace, women in Baptist life, worship, and youth ministry. The views expressed were of its contributors and not necessarily its editors. A variety of Southern Baptist pastors, denominational leaders, historians, and professors contributed articles to Search including Jimmy R. Allen, Kenneth L. Chafin, John R. Claypool, Grady Cothen, Gaines S. Dobbins, David S. Dockery, Harry Eskew, C. Welton Gaddy, Diana S. Richmond Garland, James Leo Garrett, Jr., Donald B. Harbuck, Brooks Hays, E.
