Ca. 1973
Lawrence P. Fitzgerald, former editor of The Chaplain and The Link, publications of the General Commission on Chaplains, Washington, D. C., compiled the History of the Southern Baptist Chaplaincy in the early 1970s. The manuscript includes chapters on the beginnings of chaplaincy work in the Southern Baptist Convention; duties and responsibilities of military chaplains across several major international wars and conflicts from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam; and the roles of hospital, institutional, and industrial chaplains. A listing of the Home Mission Board Division of Chaplaincy Staff from the early 1970s, and a project bibliography are also included in the manuscript. The Chaplains Commission of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention reproduced Fitzgerald’s manuscript around 1973. The digital project is presented in chapter formats. Each section is any word searchable.
